Bengaluru: A female passenger allegedly assaulted a BMTC bus driver with slippers after he refused to stop the bus in front of her office. The incident took place in Bengaluru's Kaikondrahalli on Sarjapur Road.
The driver explained that he couldn’t halt the bus at an unauthorised place and told the woman that the bus would stop at an authorised bus stop just a few metres away. According to a TOI report, the woman has been identified as Kavya, a software engineer at a private firm. The driver, Atahar Hussain, was assigned the Tin Factory to Electronic City route.
Reportedly, Kavya had taken a ticket for the Kaikondrahalli bus stop. When she asked the driver to stop the bus in front of her office, the driver refused, as the traffic movement was quite slow and it was an unauthorised stop.
As per the driver, Kavya started shouting at him after he refused to stop. She said that she was going through women’s problems and needed help. After that, the driver stopped, but she continued scolding him.
Reportedly, the driver warned her not to use foul language and informed her about the CCTV installed in the bus, but the woman took off her right slipper and assaulted the driver. ''I warned her not to use such language and of CCTV camera installed in the bus. She got back into the bus, took her right slipper, and assaulted me,'' Hussain told TOI.
When the woman tried to escape, the driver went after her and alerted the traffic police. She was then taken to Bellandur police station. Later, her husband came to the police station and apologised, claiming that his wife was on medication for mental distress. However, an FIR has been registered in the case.
