Mannara Chopra’s Father Dies: Cousin Meera In Disbelief, Says 'He Was Fine, Don’t Know What Happened'

Mannara Chopra’s father, Advocate Raman Rai Handa—also the uncle of Priyanka Chopra—passed away on June 16 at the age of 72 in Mumbai. Mannara shared the news through her Instagram Stories, posting the family’s official statement along with details of the funeral arrangements. Actress Meera Chopra, Mannara’s cousin, was in disbelief upon hearing the news.

Speaking to Instant Bollywood while at a promotional event, Meera was visibly shaken by the sad news. She shared, “Vicky told me while I was inside... I knew uncle was in the hospital, but I had no idea it was this serious. He was fine earlier, so I don’t know what exactly happened. I’m heading over to find out, but it’s very sad."

Sharing about the family’s bond, Meera added, “They were a very close-knit family. Losing a parent—there’s nothing worse than that. Mannara and Mitali were extremely close to him.”

Raman Rai Handa is survived by his wife, Kamini Chopra Handa, and their two daughters - Mannara and Mitali. Kamini is also the paternal aunt of Priyanka and Parineeti Chopra, making the loss resonate across the extended Chopra family.

Raman Rai Handa was a respected lawyer practising at the Delhi High Court. Beyond his professional stature, he was known as a devoted family man who provided unwavering support to his daughters. His sudden passing has left the family, friends, and well-wishers in profound grief. While the exact cause of death remains unclear, sources indicate he had been battling health issues in recent days.

Raman Rai Handa, aged 72, reportedly passed away in Delhi following a period of ill health. The Chopra and Handa families released an official statement confirming that his funeral will take place in Mumbai on June 18.

“With profound grief and sorrow, we inform the sad demise of our loving father who left us for his heavenly abode on 16/06/2025. He was the pillar of strength for our family,” the statement read.

The final rites are scheduled for 1:00 PM at Crematorium Ground, Amboli, Andheri West, Mumbai.
