India’s first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad is progressing steadily, with trial runs set to begin next year. Spanning 508 km with 12 stations, full operations are expected to commence by 2029.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project: India’s first high-speed rail project, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train, is steadily advancing towards completion. Covering a distance of 508 kilometres, the corridor will pass through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, with 12 stations planned along the route.
Train trials have already begun in Japan, and the service is expected to begin operations in India by 2026.
The Bullet Train will pass through these 12 stations:
Mumbai (Bandra Kurla Complex): The corridor’s starting point.
- Thane: Proposed near Dombivli East.
- Virar: Located in Palghar district.
- Boisar: This station will be in the Palghar district.
- Vapi: The first station in Gujarat.
- Bilimora: In Navsari district, promoting regional tourism.
- Surat: A major commercial hub in Gujarat.
- Bharuch: On the banks of the Narmada River, supporting industrial growth.
- Vadodara: Gujarat’s cultural and educational centre.
- Anand/Nadiad: Serving Kheda district’s agriculture and dairy sectors.
- Ahmedabad: Known as Gujarat’s economic capital, with the station near Kalupur.
- Sabarmati: The final station, integrated with the Ahmedabad Metro.
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor will stretch across approximately 508 km, connecting key cities in Maharashtra and Gujarat. In Maharashtra, the corridor will pass through major hubs such as Mumbai (BKC), Thane, Virar, and Boisar. In Gujarat, it will cover Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati.
Providing an update, Union Minister Harsh Sanghavi said that India’s first bullet train station in Surat is nearly complete. Trial runs are expected to begin next year, with full-scale operations likely to start by 2029.
