US President Donald Trump has warned Elon Musk that he'll have to pay "very serious consequences' if he funds Democratic candidates to run against Republicans who vote in favor of the GOP’s sweeping budget bill.
"If he does, he'll have to pay the consequences for that," Trump told NBC News in a phone interview, but declined to share what those consequences would be. "He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that," he added.
Even before his exit from the White House, Musk had made it clear that he was not in support of Trump's 'One Big Beautiful Bill'. Then-close advisor to Trump, Musk, said he was "disappointed" and asserted that it "undermines the work" of his Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE. The legislation includes a mix of tax cuts and enhanced immigration enforcement.
In his call with NBC News on Saturday, the US President also made it clear that he has no desire to repair his relationship with Musk. Asked if he thought his relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO was over, Trump said, "I would assume so, yeah."

The feud began when Musk criticised Trump's "Big Beautiful Bill," which is a major tax and spending plan, calling it "disgusting" and blaming it for increasing the federal deficit. Trump then accused Musk of going against him because of proposed cuts to electric vehicle subsidies. Musk denied the claim.
Thereafter, Trump threatened to cancel federal contracts with his companies, including SpaceX and Tesla. In response, Musk said SpaceX would begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft, which is crucial to NASA.
The tech billionare also endorsed a message from right-wing commentator Ian Miles Cheong demanding the US president's impeachment that read, "President vs Elon. Who wins? My money's on Elon. Trump should be impeached and JD Vance should replace him." Musk replied to the post, writing, "Yes."
Additionally, Musk leveled a grave allegation against Trump and accused him of being named in the sealed Jeffrey Epstein files. "Time to drop the really big bomb: Donald Trump is in the Epstein files," he posted on X. "That is the real reason they have not been made public." He has since deleted this bombshell post.
