The Texas Capitol Building was evacuated by police on Saturday afternoon by the police. In a statement, the Texas Department of Public Safety said that the emergency evacuation was carried out over a "credible threat" to the lawmakers. The Texas Capitol Grounds being chosen as a protest site by the 'No Kings' protestors, with protests planned across the state capital Austin scheduled on June 14. Some of the Texas lawmakers were also slated to take part in the protests at the Capitol Grounds.
The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a statement on the evacuation, saying they identified a "credible threat toward state lawmakers planning to attend a protest later today... at the Texas State Capitol Complex."
"Out of an abundance of caution, the Capitol and Capitol Grounds were evacuated around 1 p.m. and both remain temporarily closed," it added. "DPS continues working with our law enforcement partners to address the threat. As this investigation is ongoing, no additional information is available."
