Pakistan's attempt to make a space for itself through propaganda and fake news has gone flat again, as this time, the United States denied its claim that the White House had invited Pakistan's Field Marshal Asim Munir to the White House military day parade.
"This is false. No foreign military leaders were invited," a White House official said on the reports about the invitation to Munir, reported IANS.
The parade on Saturday is being seen as one of the largest military shows in the US, an attempt by US President Donald Trump to showcase its defence capabilities. As per the report, the parade commemorates the formal founding of the US Army on June 14, 1775, to fight the British colonialists, a year before the US attained Independence.
The date coincides with the 79th birthday of Trump, who will take the salute. Previously, Islamabad spread the news that Asim Munir was invited for the military parade, leading to discussions on the Pakistan-US ties. However, the denial by the White House has brought yet another moment of embarrassment for Pakistan, which is known to use fakery for boosting its image.
When the news spread, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh, among others, claimed it was a huge setback for Indian diplomacy. In an editorial in its newspaper 'Saamana', the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena-UBT asserted India suffered diplomatically and it was a "deliberate attempt to weaken India's fight".
The BJP hit back, saying what kind of parties are they which propagate Pakistan's fake narrative.
The exposure of the fake news is another blow to Pakistan, which tried to copy India and its Operation Sindoor delegation and sent a team, led by former Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, to the US. They failed to meet any senior US officials above the rank of an Under Secretary, the report mentioned.
As for the parade, thousands of troops, dozens of tanks and other military hardware, in addition to helicopters and parachutists, are scheduled to participate in the parade, which will also feature flyovers.
This will be a unique spectacle because the US does not have a tradition of military parades like India's Republic Day or France's Bastille Day parades. The last time something like this happened in the US was in 1991, when the National Victory Celebration was held after the US defeated Iraq in the First Gulf War to liberate Kuwait under Operation Desert Storm.
