Comedian and political commentator Dave Smith has apologized for supporting President Donald Trump and is now calling for his impeachment over his response to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran.
Speaking on the YouTube show Breaking Points on Monday, Smith said, “I supported him last year. I apologize for doing so. It was a bad calculation. At the time it seemed like the right one. He should be impeached and removed.”
Smith criticized Trump’s support for Israel’s military strikes and said that the president had abandoned his previous promises to end wars. “Trump is going to lose his coalition over this,” he said. “There are a lot of us that simply will not go along with this.”
The comments come after Israel launched a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities last week. Since then, the conflict between the two countries has escalated into an exchange of missile attacks, with rising civilian casualties reported on both sides.
While some warnings have been issue, Trump has constantly expressed interest in a mutual deal, stating, “We can easily get a deal done between Iran and Israel, and end this bloody conflict!!!” In another post, he added, “Iran and Israel should make a deal, and will make a deal.”
Smith dismissed the idea of negotiations. “Donald Trump telling [Iran] to come back to the negotiating table now is a joke,” he said. “It’s like sitting there after Pearl Harbor and telling FDR now is the time to go negotiate with the Japanese. Negotiations are over now.”
Smith's earlier remarks from March 2025 have also resurfaced online, where he said, “If Donald Trump actually does launch a war in Iran, not only will I not support it, I will apologize for the rest of my life for voting for the guy.”
Other right-wing figures have also voiced concern. On Monday, former Fox News host Tucker Carlson said a war with Iran could mean the “end” of Trump’s presidency and “the American empire.”
Dave Smith, born in New York City on April 20, 1983, is a comedian and libertarian political commentator. He has appeared on Fox News programs including Kennedy and The Greg Gutfeld Show. Smith supported Trump in the 2024 election but has since reversed his stance, citing the president’s handling of the Iran-Israel conflict.
